This image totally catches the area of Neve Zedek in South Tel Aviv. The area was the first district of Tel Aviv to be built, maybe a hundred or so years ago, and was peopled by writers, intellectuals, artists. Now it's being rejuvenated, but some of the original inhabitants are still there: this captures the duality. Funky bar downstairs, older women with unattractive headcovering upstairs (who is waving to me, as you can see in the photo).
