Reminds me of a fabulous piece of writing by the late, great, truly lamented John Diamond - who has inspired me more than any other writer apart from Julie Burchill - published in the Spectator in 1989, Entitled Water, Water Every Way. Sadly, it's not available online, but it is in the Snake Oil book.
John said it so much better than I ever will:
"And never mind, either, that the price of Buxton water which flows from the spring in Derbyshire is, at 59p per litre, rather more expensive than the heavily-taxed, highly refined petrol which is hard won from the raging North Sea."
Exactly.
