David has great pics and commentary from yesterday's almost-biblical flood. The BBC pic of a bus swimming along Cricklewood Lane is, frankly, too surreal for me at this time of day. Surreal is an afternoon thing, no?
Yesterday had a definite monsoon feel to; that hot, steamy sweaty rain. But hailstones too. Someone's angry, right? Or maybe whoever's upstairs doesn't have a three star contract with their emergency plumbing supplier? It was pretty damn weird watching people walk along Shoot-up Hill carrying their shoes. The last time I did that was in Bangkok. And of course there's nothing like drama and tragedy - or at the very least bad weather - for people to bond; "it's like the war, dearie."
