It's amazing that I've never been to Speaker's Corner, given that my great grandfather arrived in London from Romania en route to South Africa in 1898. He only stopped here to sit-out the Boer War, and found himself at Speaker's Corner on a Sunday morning, according to our family tradition, where he heard a speaker criticising Queen Victoria. Such activities were much frowned upon in turn of the century Romania, and he thought "if people have this much freedom here, I'll stay", only because he was in the textile business, he went up to Manchester, but that's another story.

So I met up with a couple of friends who were in town for the weekend, went for a walk in Hyde Park, spent a little while listening to the Speakers who were free entertainment for sure. Fed the ducks, which was very therapeutic, had coffee and a wander, and then came back home to read the papers.
