Something about the internet brings about people's weirdness. Here's the current confession on metafilter.
Problems with online-ness: (a) some people really think they're anonymous. They're the people who don't know about samspade and 192. (b) It brings out some people's worst (and also dullest) secrets. (c) The addictive push-pull keeps people coming back for me. Did he really do it? Did he confess? Online communities (be they large/official - metafilter, khuro5hin - or unofficial/distributed - webloggers - are a microcosm of a gossip-society and everything gets magnified till you can't tell what's real and what's Chinese whispers.
I'll stop rambling now.
