Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to....

Oh, the irony. It's raining cats and dogs, men and all manner of serious weather, and yet again, we have no water. Through the wonder of blog, I know this last happened on May 24th.

I've called a helpful CSR, who tells me there's a burst water main in Fordwych Road. Since 6.30am. I have no recollection of such crap utilities service when I was a kid. I have the vaguest memory of the Winter of Discontent, but frankly, it was great - you didn't have to go to school, and it was all candles and sitting around talking about the old days. I quite enjoyed it. It was like Halloween for a longer time.

And I often wonder if the landslide Labour victory of 1997 was partly due to the fact that a whole swathe of thirty-something potential Labour voters only remembered how great it was not having to go to school.
